Masks
The mask is the symbol of mystical transformation. The person wearing the mask becomes the being that it represents.
In West Africa, masks play an important role, for example, in initiation festivities, at public appearances of secret societies, and at harvest celebrations.

Kakilambe is an important mask of the Baga, and it appears only once a year. The spirit of Kakilambe is revered as the protector against evil spirits.
There are many different songs to the Kakilambe rhythm and this is a welcoming song.

Wassolon Region

Konden is a mask which walks fast and dances. And this rhythm, Konden is a mask dance dedicated to the young men between the ages of fifteen and twenty.
This rhythm, especially dunun voices, varies by region. This Konden 1 is the version from the area around Wassolon.

West Guinea, Boke Region

The mask, Sorsornet is one of the masks which were seen as bringer of good luck and considered to be almost deities.
When this mask is inside the village, the rhythm Sorsornet is played and the mask moves through the village.
Today, Sorsornet is also a popular rhythm to which men as well as women dance.
The song here is sung by young girls to gratitude to their mothers. It's supposed to be sung in the moonlight.
